While we are all waiting around for Hillary to speak this afternoon, I'd like to thank those who participated in the 2008 Netroots Awards.
Your vote placed Smashed Frog among the final three nominations for Best State Blog.
I share this honor with two mighty fellow blogging nominees: the Florida Netroots and the Florida Progressive Coalition.
The Frog is a different sort of State Blog, mingling Florida statewide politics with national. The goal of this blog has always been to fight back the trickle down (or evaporation up) effect of politics that impact the civil rights and liberties of our citizens, whether that effect drips down from the federal level or the state. In many cases, the rain falls heavily from both and that's about the time we as a people start to realize our rights as guaranteed by the Constitution have been hung out to dry.
I've blogged heavy on the national these past few months as I believe this country must rid itself of those who have used us to further their political careers. And these guys and gals are good at what they do, having effectively using Fear to split us from our friends and neighbors, cutting us off from our strength as One People.
My thoughts are that we as a people have a choice to make.
Suck back the last gasp of the Final Divide or draw deep the fresh breath of politics on our own terms--and that means coming together as a people.
David Kaczynski got into the battle when politics--i.e. the Justice Department-- hit home for him. After the arrest of his brother, Ted--aka as the Unabomber--every assurance guaranteed to the Kaczynski family by the government was quickly tossed. Now an activist against the death penalty, Kaczynski had this to say about human rights in this country:
"We've got to take back the ideal of justice, we've got to take back this principle of human dignity. We've got to take it back from vengeance, from hatred, we've got to say: look, we're all in this together. We are human beings."
We are all human beings.
Thanks for being a part of Smashed Frog. And thanks for passing the truth forward.
Together we are unstoppable.
