The economic stimulus bill aka the American Recovery and Reinvestment Supplemental Act of 2009 is all about creating jobs and getting people back to work.
A review of the House and Senate differences as both head to conference lists line items agreed upon by either/both sides of Congress. (I was handed the figures yesterday and don't have the pdf file with me at this writing. I hope to post this afternoon).
Listed under Title II: Justice, Commerce, Science lurked the following figure ($ thousands).
Subcommittee, Department, Agency, Account
Salaries and Expenses (Adam Walsh)
House Mark: $0 Senate Mark: $50,000
Proposed adjustment: no figure listed
Final Increase: $50,000
I'm not certain what that figure means. What's the intent? Is it token indicator of support by the Senate (a gesture) with a clear signal sent by the House regarding specific support? Or is the real money hidden in the Byrne/Justice Assistance Grants (Final increase: $1, 050,000).
But if this bill is all about jobs....Word up, Congress. Many a career has crashed and burned over because of the ramifications of the Adam Walsh Act.
Keep the focus on jobs and getting America back on its financial feet.
All Americans.
