BANGOR - A local woman was indicted Wednesday by the Penobscot County grand jury for unlawful sexual contact and endangering the welfare of a child.

[name withheld], 29, of Bangor was communicating with a convicted sex offender on Facebook, according to Michael Roberts, assistant district attorney for Penobscot County.

In her conversations with the sex offender, whose whereabouts are not known, [name withheld] posted comments about having had sexual contact with a 6-year-old child, Roberts said. When interviewed by investigators, the child confirmed the sexual contact.

Roberts did not explain how investigators became aware of [name withheld]’s Facebook chats.

If convicted, [name withheld] faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000 on the sex charge and up to a year in prison and a fine of up to $2,000 on the endangering charge.

Her arraignment date has not been set.
