Copwatch Tallahassee

Call it citizens on patrol in reverse.

Tallahassee college students have stepped in to ensure the civil liberties of others.

A small group of college students has formed an organization called Copwatch.

The group records video of Tallahassee police officers responding to calls to make sure they're not abusing their power. "We stand for the preservation of civil liberties," said co-founder Max Herrle, who is in his second semester at Tallahassee Community College. "We advocate for the right of the accused. Sometimes, we feel like police officers prey on the uninformed."

And the best way to solve that little problem is to fill the vacuum with education. The students plan to monitor police actions via video tape uploaded to YouTube.

The Tallahassee Police Department is aware of the shadowing.
